Liverpool, NY
We began the day with more miles on the pleasant Erie canal path, but gradually the
quality of the surface deteriorated, becoming rougher, mottled with some washboarding,
and no longer dead level. In Newark, NY, the trail ended and we switched to
NY bike route five, which follows highway 31 -- a busy road, but with a very smooth and wide shoulder. Some dead reckoning, with GPS and local assistance, guided us from
highway 31 to Liverpool and our host for the night. Thank you grandma R.
It was another basically easy day. Ninety miles total, half of which was on canal
towpath. Unremarkable, but riding away from traffic is very relaxing.
In Newark, where the trail ended, we rode by two pregnant women struggling to transfer a truckload of groceries up to their second floor apartment.
They called to us, asking for help, and we stopped to render aid. That's two days
in a row we've done good deeds.
Dinner was at the famous Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse. The place is actually infamous in
my book. The last time we were there my daughter caught some virus that put her in the hospital. According to the newspaper report, over a thousand people caught a bug there that day. The bug was unrelated to the food, supposedly, but regardless, the food
there still tastes great. No flu symptoms this time.

I see that you're enjoying big cool one. I've been busy with preparing for Dairy Days in P.F. I've got some signs to make and figure out how I'm going to get them displayed outside the building. Good luck and get some rest. Joy.
